THE BO-CAMP TECHNIQUE

Our technique consist of milled 6`` X 6``or 6`` X 8`` pine logs with three grooves, on the top and underneath. Two of the grooves (1) are to insert 5/8 ``plywood strips (4). Between these strips is placed a foam weather seal (3).

The center groove serves as a dead air space, or to run hardwired (2). Each log slides between 6`` X 6`` posts of the same profile in which the center groove becomes a key way (4) to insert a 2`` X 2`` key (7).

Once the logs are stacked one over the other with precision a beautiful weather tight unit is formed.

Each post is secured to the floor using ¼`` X 1 ½`` angle iron usually at 8``intervals. Therefore each horizontal log is not usually more than eight feet in length. This makes the logs easier to handle and also minimizes the natural twisting tendency of the wood.

As you stack the log sections you come to appreciate the simplicity of the system. It's almost like `` Building with Lego``. Once a section is completed, a space is provided between the last and before lost log. This space is to allow for shrinkage and for setting of the wood.

TREATMENT AND MAINTENANCE

Bo-Camp Log Homes uses ``CETOL`` by Sikkens ( or another similar product) for the exterior treatment of our logs. This treatment is applied in sequence with Cetol #1 for the first coat and Cetol #23 for the second and third with a sequence of 24 hours between each coat.

This treatment process withstands the elements for 2 to 4 years about but should be reapplied once every 2 or 3 years to those sides exposed to the sun. To preserve the natural elegance of the wood. The inside of the wall can be treated with a good quality latex-based varnish.

ELECTRICAL

During the assembling of the logs, holes are drilled into each logs therefore the electrical wires will not be visible. All holes are marked to aid the electrician with the installation. The electrician can install the wiring safely because the outlets are already in the logs. ( see photo)
